Prospecting and sampling a site for color in Angeles National Forest, 2/28/10. The idea is to hand pan for the presence of gold before you do any serious digging. 1. Find the gold line (inside curve of stream). 2. Locate a gravel deposit. 3. Dig a sample and classify (screen) to 1/4 inch. 4. Pan it and look for color. I’m at “Pry Bar Gulch” – a small canyon that is dry most of the year. I took advantage of a rainstorm the day before to pan while the small creek was running.
I enjoyed your video and your sense of humor. Is that San Bernardino County?
Thanks.

Thanks for watching bro’s. — Angeles Forest, a spit north of San Fernando Valley. Extreme west end of San Gabriel mountains. Thing is, by sampling I’ve discovered that LOTS of the little canyons from Placerita to Tujunga have color in them. Not commercial quantities, but that’s not what we’re panning for, right? One shake of the peppershaker worth of gold by the end of the day and I go home happy!

These illegal miners along East Fork of the San Gabriel River shit on us, shitting on our land with their horiffic destruction of the river’s embankments. They think that using dredges and sluice boxes are legal because they see other people using them to shit-up our river.
One can walk along the river and see the endless series of pits dug by these scumbags, some of whom live homeless and illegally along the river.
More cops are needed to patrol and arrest out there.
