It can be…but you have to be patient..you’re not going to strike at rich right away. It takes time to know the settings and the different sounds each metal gives out.
It’s best to practice with different objects (coins, foil cans..ect)so you can distinguish the diffent sounds. Gold gives out the same tone as tin..so you would also have to know where you are looking.
It’s an interesting hobby..I myself have found interesting objects….haven’t been able to retire on it but I have fun when I have nothing else to do.
It depends on what you are going to be looking for in the way of treasure. If you want to do it as a hobby or have access to mining claims or to areas that may or may not have treasure on it, then yes get yourself a metal detector. It is a lot of fun digging up coins and jewelry in the city parks (if the city permits it), and getting to go out on mining claims. I have two metal detectors and it is a lot of fun. A friend of mine has one that I would never go against. If you are going to look for gold, coins, and small jewelry, then get yourself a Goldbug metal detector and learn how to use it. They are amazing and beat mine hands down every time.
absolutely. you can get one for 100 – 200 dollars. coins and jewelry are where people have been. everywhere. wont take long to get your money back. i have found over 3000 coins in 5 years. some rings also. value over 200 dollars. go for it. garrett is a good brand. ace 150 or 250. russell in tx
