Is there a material that I can cover a metal object with to prevent it from detection from a metal detector?

I know that if you bury the object extremely deep in sand, debris, etc., that the metal detector may fail to pick it up, but is there a material that actually blocks or diverts the electromagnetic waves of the metal object?
I’m in 9th grade, and I’m just trying to get advice/help on my Science project. No, I’m not a terrorist, and no, I’m not trying to get past airport security, so if anyone knows anything about this, please help me out.

  1. Why? Trying to get through airport security?

  3. lead always work, but uow will be exposing yourself to high amounts of radiation, on the bright side it works the best out of anything to stop anything from detecting metal that is enclosed in it

  4. Offhand I’m not sure if there is anything like that. If you didn’t know how metal detectors work, its based on magnetic field induction and this site might help a little:

To prevent a detection, you basically need some way to either stop the field from reaching the object, or stop the object from generating a weak field. Metal shields can block magnetic fields but then the shield itself would be detected….
