I work for attorneys and I go to courts (city, county, federal, family, etc.), county clerks offices, etc. where I have to walk through metal detectors on a daily basis. I never thought anything of it until I brought my purse with me and I had to put it on a conveyor belt. The officer said for me to take out the scissors I had in my purse, which is a small pair that I used to cut my bangs. So this made me wonder, what do the officers see on the monitors? Is it an image…like an x-ray? Do they see beneath my clothes? Or do they only see something metal? If so, what about like underwire bras? Do they see that? How did they know I had a pair of scissors in my purse and not just something metal? I know these may be dumb questions…but I was just wondering. Thank you for reading.
Ahhh, thank you Alex. I appreciate your time. LOL, no, I do not lay down on the conveyor belt…that would be funny though.
Thank you Trooper, for your answer.
The reason why I had the scissors in my purse was because I had used it to cut a couple of stray hair around my face but I was running late for work so I just grabbed the scissors and didn’t think nothing of it. And I don’t usually take my purse with me but I did take the scissors out of the purse already before I forget.

Hello, all:
I know nothing about chemistry, and am asking this question in relation to a book that I am writing for the National Novel Writing Month.
One of my characters has a hand that is a prosthetic. It is essential that this hand not set off metal detectors, so I’m looking for some other material that the “bones” could be made out of. They’re able to coax skin to grow over the framework, but the muscles and internal structure are all artificial.
Thanks to everyone who takes the time to lend a bewildered would-be author a hand.

also, ever found anything in the sand, and what things have you found and do you enjoy finding things or not?
why or why not?
I have a “usual list” of things that I find, mostly!
I.D. cards, rubber balls, marbles, or glass that you put into plant holders, guitar picks, jewlery, money..(I have a joke about finding my “11 cents” a dime and a penny!) LOL!,also, dog toys and kids toys, clothing, knives,(I found a small Victorinox red swiss army knife,” the basic” one,(in the sand!)
also, pens, pencils, tools, shovels and sand toys, and odd things like cups and glasses, etcoh, and peoples photos, and bank cards(which I always return, along with the I.D. cards also..usually!, and if it is a lot of money, or expensive(like the diamond ring I found,I turn that in too!)..and whatever..I forget..but, that is what I usually find! What about you?
I love finding things everywhere!I don’t even use a metal detector..I just see them and find them!!LOL!
