Metal detecting in wet beach sand.?

When I was metal detecting in the wet beach sand on the NC coast, my detector went crazy. The dry sand was no problem. When I detected in the wet sand or the shallow ocean water, my detector would usually detect something 8 inches below the sand almost anywhere I swept my detector. I did dig several holes and never found anything. Does the ocean water tend to give off false signals due to its salinity? Any help would be great!
I’m using a Bounty Hunter 202 with a 10 inch coil.

metal detector?

I am looking for a metal detector for my grandfather, who is in his 60′s. Just for a hobby, he’ll use it at the beach, campgrounds, just around the house etc. I want something simple but good, and not too expensive, preferably lightweight and easy to use. Anyone with experience in this area have any ideas as to what kind would be the best.

Beach Treasure Hunting clip #1

Beach Treasure Hunting clip #1

At low tide on a cloudy September afternoon I hunt for lost jewelry, coins and other stuff buried in the wet sand of the soft sand beach with a Minelab Excalibur II beach/salt water metal detector. Ocean City can be a productive hunting location since it is such a popular tourist spot. In this video, I find a few modern coins and a unidentified heart shaped pendant that could be silver or white gold and diamonds. Many seagulls are interested as you will also see throughout the video clip.
