Gold dredging in a swollen river in western Colorado. The first dredge spot cleaned up poor after an hour so we moved down stream. We were behind a big rock on the inside corner of a bend. A quarter way through our hole the river filled the outside pontoons and about sunk the dredge. It emptied out the sluice. We got it out and it took half an hour to empty the pontoons, We got back to work and had a fantastic cleanup.

My son and I went down to a river in Oklahoma to dredge for gold. This section of river is known to produce fine gold for panners, so we decided to try to get some bigger stuff down off the bedrock.

If I were camping out in the middle of nowhere, and set up a camp to do some gold hunting… Stayed out there for several weeks.. How could I do this without getting in trouble? I would need to set up camp near the river I am prospecting.. And I dont see anyone having the discipline to follow all those rules about keeping anything with scent in a bear protective container for a couple weeks on end.
How do you pull something like this off without getting into trouble with bears or rangers.
