I’m doing this presentation on Mining (mining student myself) and i have to do 7-10 minutes talking about mining in Mongolia. Below is how I’m kind of preparing for it. If there’s any grammar errors please help me spot em. Also I’ve got some unfinished awkward sentences in the last paragraph please help me with those. And if there’s anything that needed to be omitted or added, please suggest me. Thanks a lot in advance. I’m sorry this is a long question. But I’ll forget you as a person who did a huge favor for me. Thanks again.
Good morning everyone. My name’s bilguun batbaatar. I’m originally from Mongolia. Today I’ll be doing the presentation on Mining in Mongolia as my main topic.
For subtopics I’ll briefly discuss about the background info on Mongolia in general
And then I’ll talk about mining in Mongolia, Canadian Mongolian relationship regarding mining industry, future prospects of the industry in Mongolia. Lastly, ill briefly discuss the benefits of working overseas.
So Mongolia… It’s a place of history, beautiful natural sceneries and today a place mining.
Throughout history, Mongolians have always been known as warriors, those who like to engage in war. As a result we found, the largest contiguous empire the world has ever seen just 800 hundred years ago. (map) Here’s the picture of Genghis khan, the founder of Mongol Empire (picture). Here’s the map of Mongolia Today. Pretty small compared to the previous one. I don’t know why. We have about 2.7 million people, bordered with china on the north and Russia on the south.
Moving on… Mining in Mongolia. (slide) Mongolia is a very rich country in terms of natural resources and minerals. We have a variety of different minerals such as gold, lead, copper, oil tin and uranium. Although we are very rich in minerals we don’t have expertise, technology to bring…..As a result we need mutually beneficial foreign investment, expertise in the field. And Canada happens to be the perfect example for that. Canada and Mongolia have a cooperative bilateral relationship which includes significant Canadian investment in the mining sector. Here’s an example. (slide) Ivanhoe mines is a Vancouver based mining company that has its biggest asset in Mongolia called The oyu tolgoi deposit and it is considered one of the largest copper and gold deposits in the world. It’s under construction and scheduled to start production in late 2012.
People in the mining field travel a lot. And some of you might be interested in coming to Mongolia and work after graduation. In that case, you are all welcome to come.

Hi,
I am looking into teaching English as a foreign language in Taiwan. I have done quite a lot of research but have a few questions to which I am unable to find up-to-date answers.
I am an English native speaker. I have a good BA degree but no tefl qualification. I am hoping to head to Taiwan in May/June this year. (I know this may not be the best time to go from a ‘finding work’ perspective but I hope to find something anyway. Please let me know if you think this unwise).
Here are my questions:-
Firstly, is the job market really tightening up? I can imagine this is true but would appreciate some recent info. If this is the case, would you advise securing a job before leaving or is it still possible to find one on arrival, assuming I bring enough money to live off for the first couple of months? I am not expecting streets paved with gold or anything, just would like to know if there are still jobs about.
Money and Visas. I Don’t have that much money just now and have read on some pages that you need at least $3000 in your bank account in order to get a visa. I will probably have enough money for a hostel and food for a month or so, but this will be overdraft and, therefore, nowhere near £2000. Again, perhaps securing a job prior to arrival would help with getting a visa…? Would you advise an agency?
As for location, I like the sound of Kaohsiung as opposed to Taipei. Which would you advise? Would it be more sensible to get a job in Taipei in order to get a feel for things?
I think that’s everything. I’m excited at the prospect of a new challenge in an interesting country, any info anyone can offer me, though, would be most appreciated.
Cheers
It all started when I slept in due to extreme tiredness and missed the only midterm in the class; it was until I asked the prof about it a week later that I realized this. She kindly offered me a time to re-write the exam in her office on Friday.
Fridays were always tough, with three consecutive 90-minute classes. Balancing at the brink of sleep, I did my best to capture the ideas that trudged by my heavy mind. Not surprisingly, I could only make of over a page by the end (most others wrote 2-3 pages). It felt like I just ran 10 miles by hand. I had the paper returned in class, interestingly on the same day, with exactly the following comment:
“[my name], I have decided to award you a mark of 50, in order to enhance your prospect of passing the course. I hope that you will learn from your mistake of not turning up on the day of the midterm; strictly speaking, you should have been awarded 0% and denied a final grade for the course, as the Course Outline states that all assessment components must be completed for the student to be awarded a final grade for this course.”
As I read this, I felt gratuitous that the prof has given me a second life. Touched, I had a slight urge to cry. It wasn’t that I didn’t care less for the course beforehand, but this note was a powerful motivation for me to strive for my absolute best. After class, I wanted to say something deep to express myself, but there were others around. I only managed to thank her, give her a warm handshake. She patted me on the back. (I was thinking of a hug, but it would’ve been awkward). I feel I could do better than that.
I’m thinking of preparing a letter and a gift to present to my prof for the end of the term. The former wouldn’t be a problem to compose, but I’m struggling on the latter.
I don’t want to grab a cheap item because it looks bad and destroys everything – while it doesn’t need to be a statue of solid gold, I don’t mind spending about $200 – I want it nice and presentable. As the term ends around Christmas I could use a few ideas, but I’m stuck now. I’m thinking of a beautiful candle or perhaps a batch of cookies I made myself, but I hate to make it cliché.
I need serious answers here. If you’re going to make a lot of inappropriate remarks please spare me the frustration and wasted time, none of which I want or need. Thanks a lot!

Yeah, I take the grading period and any unnecessary drama into consideration. I tend to avoid flowers for the latter reason, as it might seem I’m going about a relationship or something. I’m thinking, chocolates might work. Gift cards seem a little cliche, though.
