Here’s a thing I don’t quite get. People fear what they do not understand. Just this morning I asked two young girls I thought might want to go with me to a picnic/dance/bonfire in Fairborn. Now of course I didn’t ask them at the same time, and both of them would have wanted to go. Strangely, but not surprisingly, their parents were… apprehensive. The first girls parents knew that I had just turned 18, so they of course, denied my request. the second was the same. I understand their fear. If some unknown young man came asking to see my daughter, I would guard her as jealously as I would guard a hoard of treasure. It doesn’t bother me that I was rejected. but what does bother me, is the intolerant, and almost,fearful manner in which I was rejected. Why do they back away? What reason have I given them to fear me? My record is spot clean and I have a clear conscience. I’m a Believer in Christ, and a DeMolay, which means I have honor and am bound by certain vows and oaths, the violation of which, would cause me to lose the honor I have worked so hard to gain. I want to know, why is it that I cannot ask these parents to, instead of backing away in fear, to ask me questions, so that I can show them they have nothing to fear. I’m good young man, and I have 100 others, both young men and women, who will say the same thing. and to parents. I can understand why you are afraid to see me, or any young man, for that matter, ask for your daughter to come on a date with us. The slightest lapse in judgment, the slightest error, and you could lose a lot. But you must understand, that fear is highly irrational.
the girls i might add were 16 and 15-ish and I happen to know these girls very well.
