the man he killed poem?? please help?

“Had he and I but met
By some old ancient inn,
We should have sat us down to wet
Right many a nipperkin! 1. 1. half a pint of ale

“But ranged as infantry,
And staring face to face,
I shot at him and he at me,
And killed him in his place.

“I shot him dead because –
Because he was my foe,
Just so — my foe of course he was;
That’s clear enough; although

“He thought he’d ‘list perhaps, 2. 2. enlist
Off-hand like — just as I –
Was out of work — had sold his traps– 3. 3. traps for hunting
No other reason why.

“Yes; quaint and curious war is!
You shoot a fellow down
You’d treat if met where any bar is,
Or help to half-a-crown.4″ 4. English coin

Older man – Younger woman – Mail order bride?

I’m in my fifties, never married, never had any kids. I would like to get married and have some kids. That means I would need a woman who is young enough to be my daughter.

Sometimes, a young woman will marry a much older man, because he has a lot of money. I don’t, and I would be very leery of gold diggers even if I did.

I suppose I could find a woman with some daddy issues. But I’m not interested in trying to compete with some woman’s fantasy of an ideal father figure that I can never live up to.

There are a variety of things that might make it difficult for a woman to find a partner. Some of these things I might be willing to overlook. Others, I would not overlook. I do have some standards.

I have just about concluded that the only way I am going to do this is by meeting up with a woman in a developing country who wants to come to the United States. Of course, that does present it’s own problems. There are cultural differences, unreasonable expectations on her part, and all the difficulties normally associated with Internet relationships.

I believe many men who do this are jerks who have to look overseas because they treat women like crap and that’s the only way they can get one. That’s not where I’m coming from. I am looking for a partner, not a sex slave.

I have already made up my mind that I am going to do this. I’m not dead set against considering American women. I’m just not optimistic about my prospects locally. I’m just wondering if there might be some ways of going about it that I have overlooked. I’d appreciate any ideas the community might be able to offer.

Name of a japanese character?

i recently read a book about a young man from japan during the feudal period of (the 1800s). He started out as a fisherman at the age of nine. Then, he and his co-fishermen were shipwrecked. mon-jirro? maybe. Anyway, they were saved by american whalers, but knew that they wouldn’t be allowed back into Japan. They were taken to hawaii, and the boy was adopted by the captain, and sent to school in america. He went prospecting for gold, and found enough to get passage back to japan. When he got there(or to an island near there) he was arrested for trespassing, but a lord(you know, king-thing?) set him free, and allowed him to see his family again? Eventually, commodore something landed on japanese soil, and negotiated the treaty of Kanagawa. Does anyone(maybe someone who’s japanese and is familiar with the story) know the young man’s name? Oh, also, he was turned from a fisherman into a samurai(something unknown at the time)
