can you find buried glass with a detector?

Ok I know this may sound wierd, but I need to know if there is a way to find a buried mason jar with a plastic lid in the ground using some type of detector (like a metal detector), and if so where would you get such detector? My grandmother swears she buried a mason jar with some money a few years ago and she is about to dig up her whole yard looking for it, I was trying to keep her from doing that and make sure there was something actually there. (personally I think she is going crazy but unless I have proof nothing is there she is going to dig up her whole yard).
