Name of a japanese character?

i recently read a book about a young man from japan during the feudal period of (the 1800s). He started out as a fisherman at the age of nine. Then, he and his co-fishermen were shipwrecked. mon-jirro? maybe. Anyway, they were saved by american whalers, but knew that they wouldn’t be allowed back into Japan. They were taken to hawaii, and the boy was adopted by the captain, and sent to school in america. He went prospecting for gold, and found enough to get passage back to japan. When he got there(or to an island near there) he was arrested for trespassing, but a lord(you know, king-thing?) set him free, and allowed him to see his family again? Eventually, commodore something landed on japanese soil, and negotiated the treaty of Kanagawa. Does anyone(maybe someone who’s japanese and is familiar with the story) know the young man’s name? Oh, also, he was turned from a fisherman into a samurai(something unknown at the time)

Do you remember this childrens book from the 1980′s? I am desperate to find this weird book!?

To set the time period, I am 32 now and was in kindergarden in 1980.
Sometime between 1980 and 1985 there was a childrens book that was very “ahead” of its time.
My memory is very piecey.
The author (Male I believe) hid a real “treasure” somewhere in the U.S. or the world. I can’t remember which.
And I “think” each page had a real outdoor photograph near to where the item was hidden. I think each page had some sort of riddle to help you “figure” it out. I seem to recall the author would come out with a new book and the location of the previous books “treasure” was disclosed. I seem to recall one photograph in the book that seemed to be taken somewhere in the woods.
This book was so magical for me and would make my heart soar to find a copy! I would pay a lot for it! Please help.
Back then it was to me like the “amazing race” or “treasure hunter”.
I would dream about who would find it and dig it up. I would lose sleep over this book. I think the author had at least two books
If I heard the authors name I am sure I would recognize it!

It is NOT Author Michael Stadther “A Treasure’s Trove: A Fairy Tale About Real Treasure for Parents and Children of all Ages.” The book I am talking about was written in the eary 1980′s

Two heads are better than one! I am crying REALLY! I am so excited this is the end of a 20 Year search! Not a single bookstore employee in the last 20 years has been able to help me. well, here it goes… i’ve been with my ex on and off for the past three years..i gave him more chances than you can think off after he broke my heart several times. i think i am too soft. so he left me to further his studies in england, it was his choice, he told me ‘maybe he doesn’t love me enough’..over the phone during my major exam period. (yeah..inconsiderate!) then i haven’t heard from him for about three months then he sent me an email ‘sending his regards’, i didn’t reply for a couple of months and just recently he sent me another one (long one), telling me about his time over there and the ppl he meets etc. and about how he’ll never forget the past memories of us…and that he’ll treasure it in his heart forever blabla. i told him before he left that if he needs a listener i will be the person to listen to all his problems and help him out etc. but then things turned out sour and now in this email he supposedly wants meto b some1 he can talk 2. wat shall i do? is he over me?
should i reply? i know he is soooooooo NOT worth it after all that he has done to me! every now and then i still get hurt from thinking about about what he did to me(i cried until i have no tears left), i mean i personally believe, u can forgive that person but u can’t forget. i can’t say if i am over him or not, because right now, i am just living my life. *plz give me meaningful and proper answers* thanks
oh..and also…he said in the email that he doesn’t want to lose contact with a person whom he has gone a long way before (me)… maybe he just wanna be close friend with me. but i don’t feel that it is right. am i being too childish? i just don’t want to be friends….
*i made him a cd of pictures of us and some messages for him to treasure before he left…he has been looking at it…hence that’s why he can’t forget… (mentioned in email) .

this will be my second tat. i got 5 stars tattooed on my hip when i lost 5 friends within a 3 week period. that was one year ago. i have been through a lot in my life, but i don’t let it hold me down. after losing my best friend, i have tried to live and treasure every moment given to me. any suggestion for inspiration?
