Gold Prospecting: Is there a place I can buy a book about where to find gold, silver, platinum?

I just bought a whites metal detector and would like to use it. After watching “Treasure Hunter” on the Travel Channel I would like to go out and find Gold, Silver, Platinum or Meteor Rocks. I’m looking for very detailed locations. Just wondering if anyone might have come across this type of a guide book.

Thanks for in advance…

gem/sapphire mining?

hi, i was watching a program on the travel channel called ‘cash and treasures’ and they were doing sapphire mining. i wanted to know, has anyone ever done something like this? if so, did you find anything? also, where are some places i could go. on the travel channel website they list a few places, but these places charge per bag. i want to go and be able to pay for a whole day. i dont just want to go through one bag, it seems more fun to be out all day. oh, and i dont care if its just for sapphires, any gem would do(please, no gold. im not looking to gold prospect). thank you

ancient shark teeth hunting in florida??

i was watching finding cash and treasures on travel channel and i saw one where they went shark teeth hunting in some lake or river in florida anyone know where i can get info on that?
i think it may be the peace river, you have to go in the water to find the fossils

I’d like to know where to find cool gem mining areas where the public can search for native gems in the US.

I’ve checked out a few of the places that I’ve seen on The Travel Channel’s Cash and Treasure. It seems that after being featured on the show, the prices for such activity at these locations has gone up (doubled from $50 to $100 at one place.)

I know that there must be many more of the native gem and rockhounding areas available to the public than I have heard about. But, I don’t know where to find them. I thought that with so many people reading this question, that I’d surely find out about many less known places. So, please do let me know if you’ve been gem hunting, where and what you found and if you had a good experience.

I’d particularly like to know of any public native gem searching areas in the South East.

Thanks for you help.
