Can you exchange a opened game for the same game if it doesn’t work?

I bought Assassin’s Creed 2 from Amazon.com about a month back now (ordered it around early December) and when i opened it and played it, it stopped working and said the disk is unreadable. This happened to me after i had to escort Ezio’s family out of Florence to go meet his Uncle Mario. Before i went to see Uncle Mario, i stopped playing once it saved and now when i start my file again, it doesn’t work. Every other file for Assassin’s Creed 2 works and so does all my other games and there are no scratches or anything. Yet, when i restart my file it says its unreadable. I really don’t wanna have to start a new file because i bought all the treasure maps and stuff for Florence and did everything for it which took me a good long time (about a days worth of playing video games without getting sick of the game. Not 24 hours, but lk 5+ hours.) I was wondering if i could exchange my game for the same game elsewhere such as gamestop or gamecrazy or toyrus since amazon doesn’t allow exchanges.
Edit: I made a new file but the same thing happens. As soon as i finish escorting Ezio’s family out of Florence, it says the disk in unreadable.

  1. Yeah man, take it Walmart and say that it’s not working and you lost the receipt, and all you want is another copy. They will TOTALLY give you another copy of the game.

  4. Sorry, but if Amazon doesn’t exchange it, the other companies like gamestop and such won’t either because you didn’t buy it there, and you don’t have a receipt.

  6. You may be able to contact the manufacture to arrange an exchange.

I do not buy anything from a business that does not allow exchanges of defective merchandise within a specified time period.

  7. Since the game works, no. Even if you got a new one, it wouldn’t matter. The save is on the hard drive, it doesn’t save to the disk. The disk is read only, and stores only game information. Just start over, you’re not even that far into it. The save got corrupted for some reason. If you get to the same point again, and it stops working, then you can return it. If you take it to Gamestop, they won’t give you your full money back, just give you the trade-in value.

  8. yh just take ya game in to a shop and swap it. they might ask you y when u exchange the same game for the same game tho. I could b wrong but its unlikely to be the disc most likely the save file as got a error so getting a new disc wont change a thing. You mite have to just start again.

  9. Hi,

I agree with the Walmart comment. I recently bought a WII game and asked them about their return policy if not working. They said, bring it back and they give you another of the same game. No issues. I did not ask about the receipt part, but if you are a kid, and say your parents bought it and can’t find the receipt, you will most likely be ok.
