So this is a speech that I am writing and I need advice and suggestions. Here it is!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Optimism, a word that means so many things to so many different people. Some people might even say there is no such thing as this evolved hope, that it’s just an illusion. Others say that optimism shines through the clouds of despair and hopelessness while showing you a better path to follow. People who are in poverty, who are sick, and citizens who are getting into financial trouble have only one thing that can make hope come to life and solve the unsolvable, that one thing is optimism.
Through history, the United States of America has ridden on the train of optimism. Great people such as; Harriet Tubman, Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, Florence Nightingale, Bill Gates, Barack Obama and so many more great people who have been an inspiration to our country and have made it down in history all had or have a secret weapon, hard work and optimism. Hard work fits along side optimism and determination just like paper and pencils. Without one it won’t work out. If you work hard but don’t believe that you can do it there isn’t a question about it, you will fail. And same goes with the other way around. You can’t expect to just hope that it will get accomplished and when you open your eyes it will be there. It doesn’t work that way, you need both. If you keep sanguinity that whatever you’re working towards will turn out fine, then your confidence will never fail. A person’s character is well defined if that person has a strong sense of optimism and is less to be discouraged by any obstacle, no matter what measure. Determination, the key to make sure that best abilities are always put to the job, with determination you will make sure that you’d do everything possible to make sure you achieve your goal. Without hope, your determination is severely damaged, because then you don’t carry a can-do attitude and then you simply become malicious in trying to achieve your goal. Without determination and optimism, you don’t have that personal x-factor in you.
When you give up hope and lose sight of your true personality friends and family can bring you back into the light. I really see depression as a high level of not having optimism in what you do. If you don’t believe that you can do it then you misplace your confidence. A quote I recently found that inspired me a lot used words to describe something hard to capture on your tongue. The quote from Vaclav Havel the president of Czechoslovakia declared “I can hardly imagine living without hope. As for the future of the world, there is a colorful spectrum of possibilities, from the worst to the best. What will happen, I do not know. Hope forces me to believe that those better alternatives will prevail, and above all it forces me to do something to make them happen.”
Only you can change your world with a handful of determination, a scoop of hard work and a pinch of optimism. Pessimists continually drown you in their worries and complaints eventually making you believe there can be something wrong with everything in the universe. Other than pessimists there are also realists. The two can be very similar but realists are people who don’t push the limits and only stick to the things they know and can put trust in. Why settle for something that would surely be reliable when you can let god take matters into his hands and give you more? Everyone has dreams when they are little of exploring the world like Indiana Jones while fighting bad guys and snatching the treasure away. You can live like that and dream but only if you are an optimist.
  2. That was really good. It’s inspiring, well written, and flows extremely well. I normally have tons of suggestions and critique for writers on this site, but yours seems like it’s already polished nicely. I think it will do very nicely in a speech and it has all the right things to motivate people.
    I enjoyed this. 10 Stars if I could.
    “Through history, the United States of America has ridden on the train of optimism. Great people such as; Harriet Tubman, Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, Florence Nightingale, Bill Gates, Barack Obama and so many more great people who have been an inspiration to our country and have made it down in history all had or have a secret weapon, hard work and optimism”
    That part though seems just a tad long. Also, try instead of people, put in Americans. Try categorizing the people.
    Like, “Throughout history the United States of America has ridden on the train of optimism. These great Americans include people such as; Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman and Ronald Reagan who helped to keep the peace and justice on our land, and even in the world. To Florence Nightingale who fought for improved medical care, and to Bill Gates who gave us a window into the future. Even now we add a new person to our lists of shining stars, Barack Obama who has risen to take on the economical struggle. The aspect that link all of these great people together is that they aspired us, drove us to become better, kept our hope up when it seemed the sun would never rise again. What they had most in common, is that in them they all held a secret weapon. Their strength, hard work and optimism that one day their own struggle would make the life of at least one person better.”
    I couldnt do much, but try to separate the names and give a few words on who they are. I know who Bill Gates is, but I had noooo idea who or what Florence did. This way it seems less like a run on, and by reading or saying allowed, it will seem less messy.
    Instead of using conjunctions like “won’t” and “isn’t”, try writing the whole word out instead of combining them. My 12th grade teacher despised them, he always said a person who used them was just lazy, and a person who didnt was brilliant. It also seems more grown up and mature.
    Other than that I think its great! I want to be a teacher when I ‘grow up’ so I love reading over stuff. :)
